There are 76 frames in all. Next, a floor timber will be bolted to each of the frame heels to tie them together with the keel plank.

French & Webb has been commissioned to build a reproduction of the 1926 design originally named Gee Whiz. She is a slight enlargement of NG Herreshoff’s last personal yacht Pleasure. The original 34 foot yacht is still sailing under the name of Aida (see photos).
Construction is to follow the 1926 drawing using traditional steam bent frames and double planking. The yacht also has a centerboard thus the engine is mounted off center to starboard.
A summer 2010 launch is anticipated.

French & Webb has completed construction of a 29′ Diesel/Electric Launch designed by Stephens, Waring, & White Yacht Design of Brooklin, Maine.

This innovative launch is powered by a Steyr Hybrid drive incorporating a diesel motor coupled to an electric motor/generator; in other words, the propeller will turn by either diesel or electric motors. The launch’s arched carbon canopy will be covered with solar panels to help keep batteries charged. Construction is cedar strip planked sheathed with 9 oz. unidirectional carbon inside and out. The stern will be cold molded veneers sheathed with carbon.

Scheherazade is a beautiful and powerful sailing yacht of the 21st century, designed by Bruce King and combining classic styling and cutting edge technology. She is modern, low, and sleek with a dramatic reverse transom. The interior is built of fiddle back sycamore and has a unifying burled walnut moulding throughout, with a seemingly endless succession of individually, hand-sculpted sea motifs.

As quoted in The Yacht Report, Oct. 2005, “The Hodgdon built ketch S.Y. Scheherazade is not only an exceptional example of yacht building, she is probably one of the finest examples of what our industry stands for – a true labour of love for all who participate. This is a true Siren of the Sea.”

The award winning Antonisa is another King and Hodgdon collaboration. Bruce King’s design is the ultimate “modern classic”. Antonisa’s long overhangs, gentle sheer, flush deck and signature elliptical skylights harkens back to the start of the 20th century. Below decks the King design is breathtaking; the working fireplace and the elliptical wooden bathtub are distinctive and well noted highlights of her interior. The greatest achievement below is the builder’s ability to use high tech materials, methods and advanced systems while producing a traditional and gorgeous interior.
